MEET POETIC FASHION PRODUCER AMIGA TAYLOR , A DEDICATED COMMUNITY ACTIVIST.

As you know I recently arranged that Amiga Taylor speak to the media on the anniversary of the gang violence that killed her brother 11-year-old Ephraim Brown in a crossfire of undeserving selfish alleged gang members shooting outside a family party in 2007. Since her personal experience with this tragedy, she has been an integral part of Poetic Fashion and other positive programs for Toronto youth. This show bringing Toronto youth from rival neighborhoods to perform in a star studded showcase was perfectly successful! It was featured on the Toronto Sun and Police websites. Several BCC's were in the house that night.

SOMALIAN CANADIAN RAPPER K'NAAN SOUNDS OFF TO ME ABOUT THE PIRACY CRISIS!

Photo: FoxNews.com

With the arrival of a Somali pirate defendant in NYC, everyone's talking about this high seas crisis. I asked Somalian Canadian rapper K'naan this question back in December 2008 when I did this interview for my music blog. Watch the entire interview to hear what he had to say about Somalian pirates!

Just like Octomom, the media has already dubbed this kid "Jolly Roger" I guess because he's happy! OMG! Next thing, he'll write a book, sell pirate fashions and God knows what? I also hear NYC human rights lawyers are already rushing to represent him and his mom is appealing to Obama to let him go or let her have a visa to attend the trial. Obama is too busy trying to get a U.S Journalist released in Iran. I guess this will be a "trial and error" year. This will be one good trial!!

NIGERIAN CANADIAN R&B ARTIST DI'JA INTERVIEWED BY TORONTO'S 680NEWS RADIO MUSIC REPORTER RUDY BLAIR.

R&B Artist DiJa interviewed by 680 News Rudy Blair - DiJa

BCC Rudy Blair met fellow BCC Di'Ja at the Canadian Radio Music Awards last month and she spoke to him about her love for music, her roots and what's in store for the future. As you know she was nominated as a Best New Artist (Urban CHR) for the Canadian Radio Music Awards during Canadian Music Week. However she lost to Kreesha Turner, she continues to pursue her dreams working on her debut album. Below is that Twinkle little star song blogger Zack Taylor made all the nominees sing. Doesn't Di'Ja sound great?

Talent-search judges this year include Burnaby-based singer Di'Ja, who scored a hit with "Rock Steady" on The Beat radio station, and Dal Hothi, who is making noise with his bhangra-pop songs after cutting a video (for "I Promise You") with Slumdog Millionaire movie star Freida Pinto.

TRE ARMSTRONG VISITS ECUADOR AND GIVES BACK..

Photo below: Tre in Ecuador CTV.ca

I swear, I saw her knitting something right out of a sheep's fresh wool. It was so funny yet creative to see how it's done.

She's a dancer, a choreographer and a judge, but many might not know that Tré Armstrong also can wield a hammer and a nail.

Before the So You Think You Can Dance Canada audition tour kicked off in Vancouver, Armstrong went down to Ecuador to teach dance and help build a school in a rural community.

After speaking at Free The Children's National "Me to We" Day last October, Armstrong decided she wanted to get more involved.

"Me to We" seeks to initiate change through socially responsible choices and leadership experiences and the Canadian maven of urban dance headed down to South America during March break with the organization's resident singer songwriter Louise Kent.

Dancing in San Miguel de Pomachaca

Armstrong and Kent travelled from Quito, the capital of Ecuador, up to the Chimborazo province. With Ecuador's highest percentage of indigenous communities, Chimborazo faces one of the highest poverty rates in the country.

As Armstrong's passion is dance, she began offering dance workshops to women in small communities.

She taught in an elementary school and also taught high school girls at a community facility. "That was really enjoyable," Armstrong says. "They really taught me how to dance as well."

Ecuadorian dance has a lot of footwork, Armstrong notes, adding that it was very challenging to learn.

"They were so proud that someone from so far away wanted to learn their dance," Kent observed.

The biggest challenge in teaching dance, Armstrong says, was navigating language barriers. "We couldn't use words, but could engage artistically," she says, explaining that instead of their voices, they used their bodies to communicate.

"The girls came away with the notion of being open and the ability to be themselves in new situations," Armstrong says. Read the rest at CTV.ca

Tre believes in empowering youth

I am not ashamed to tell this as Jamie Foxx told the same story about Diddy when trying to get into some club before he was SUPERfamous. Tre Armstrong is one of those BCC's that I really admire. She actually helped me get into the VIP area of a club here in Toronto last year when I just came to Canada.

I was trying to
re-take a picture with a certain celeb though I was on the press list, security will not let me into that area because I needed and extra$100 ticket. The red carpet picture we took at the MMVA failed and I did not realize it till after I left the pressroom after the awards were over. You never get a second chance to do that.

I just wanted the picture and go home!
In comes Tre with her entourage and asked me if I was OK? I met her earlier at the MMVA preparty. She just gazed in the bouncer's eyes and said..."KEMI'S WITH US!" The big silly guy was reduced to a kitten and I went in with Tre. I will forever thank her and remember her for that. Lovely BCC!

MUCHMUSIC'S MATT BABEL MOVES TO MORNING SHOW ON CP24.

For those of you who have been piling e-mails in my inbox, Matt Babel is still alive and well. He has moved on to another section of the CTV establishment...... Some of you noticed him on the new breakfast show on CP24 and wondered how he could still host Much On Demand at 5pm LIVE. Well, he's NOT over there any longer and we miss him! I e-mailed media relations at CTV and here is the real deal FIRST on HipHossip. Jaime Werby at MUCHMUSIC PR sent me this e-mail...

Tuesday, April 7, 2009 5:08 PM

Hi Kemi,
Matte Babel has moved on to host the CP24 Breakfast show and is no longer a VJ at MuchMusic. Our other VJs (Leah, Sarah, Devon and Tim) all alternate hosting MuchOnDemand, which was also the case before when we also had Matte as part of our VJ team.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.
Thanks,
Jaime

Thank you Jaime! We miss Matt but everyone has to move on sometimes in their lives. Leah, Sarah, Devon and Tim all do a great job! I love that music channel damn it! Above is that picture of Matt and I at the Rock da Bells concert with heavy rain all afternoon in July 2008.

CHRIS BOSH ACCUSED OF BEING A DEADBEAT DAD?

TOM SANDLER PHOTO (left), MIKE SEGAR/REUTERS FILE PHOTO

Chris Bosh, the face of Toronto's struggling NBA franchise, is being cast in U.S. court documents as a deadbeat father who broke up with his girlfriend when she was seven months pregnant, leaving her destitute and without medical care even as she fell ill.

The court documents, filed in Maryland on behalf of Bosh's former live-in girlfriend, Allison Mathis, who is seeking child support and sole custody, allege that in early 2008 Mathis and Bosh planned to get married. According to the filings, whose allegations have been denied by Bosh, they made a consensual decision to have a child together and Bosh, who is earning a salary of $14.4 million (U.S.) this season, paid for a fertility drug to hasten the process.

Not long after Mathis conceived – at last year's NBA all-star weekend in New Orleans, according to a sworn affidavit signed by Mathis – the couple moved into a jointly owned $1.6 million home in Frisco, Tex.

But upon Bosh's return from the Beijing Olympics in August of last year, the player signalled his intention to, according to the complaint, "move on" from the relationship. With Mathis seven months pregnant it is alleged Bosh stopped supporting her financially and attempted to have her removed from their home. Without money to pay for her obstetrician appointments, let alone a means of transportation to attend them, Mathis, according to the documents, suffered "breakthrough bleeding and a constantly upset stomach" while utility companies threatened to disconnect her electricity, gas and water.

According to the filings, Mathis returned to the Maryland suburbs of Washington, where she had grown up, to live with her mother in a two-bedroom apartment; was admitted to hospital due to complications in the pregnancy; and delivered the baby by emergency C-section on Nov. 2. Four-month-old Trinity Meyers Mathis, according to the documents, has laid eyes on her father but twice, both times in his hotel room, once when the Raptors were in town to face the Wizards.

The complaint, which contains allegations that have not been proven in court, says Bosh contested his paternity before genetic testing determined a 99.97 per cent probability that he is Trinity's father. Bosh, who turns 25 today, did not return a request for comment yesterday. Said Vincent Wills, Bosh's Maryland-based attorney: "Obviously Chris denies all the allegations in the complaint. We're going to be filing our response to the filing within the next week or so."

The case, perhaps, is the missing piece in explaining a sometimes puzzling decline in the on-court performance of Bosh and the Raptors. Bosh, an iconic figure in Toronto and beyond known both for his athletic prowess and his gift for starring in viral Internet videos, was proclaiming himself a candidate for league MVP in the midst of a stellar November. But Mathis filed suit on Nov. 26, 2008, and, not long after, Bosh and the Raptors fell into an abyss. Bosh, who averaged 26 points a game on 54 per cent shooting in November, averaged 21 points a game on 44 per cent shooting in December, and the team he leads, after putting together a win-loss record of 8-8 in October and November, went 4-12 for December, a stretch of abysmal play that saw coach Sam Mitchell fired and a hotly anticipated season began to disintegrate into its current tatters.

Mathis, 28, met Bosh in 2005 and was a hard-to-miss courtside fixture for most of the previous couple of seasons. Once a personal chef to the Dallas Cowboys, according to the filings, she was for a while Bosh's near-constant companion. Last year she sported a sizeable ring on the finger usually reserved for matrimonial promises even as Bosh denied an engagement, and she became something of a public figure when LeBron James, the Cleveland Cavaliers all-star, cited her courtside trash-talking as a motivating factor in James's 39-point outpouring in a Cleveland win at the Air Canada Centre. The video of Mathis jawing with James was shown on highlight loops around the continent. "(Mathis) got more (TV) time than me and Bosh," James said after that game.

Mathis did not return a call seeking comment yesterday. Said Lois Finkelstein, Mathis's Maryland attorney: "We will reserve our comments for the court."

The complaint against Bosh speaks of Mathis's bleak existence since she left the couple's Texas home last summer.

"(Mathis's) expenses are mounting both for her and (Trinity), but she has no way to satisfy these obligations," it states. "(Mathis) has asked (Bosh) to assist with these expenses, but he has failed and refused to do so ... (despite) his overwhelming ability to do so."

Though Bosh remained silent yesterday, he has spoken periodically of his "trying" season, and club insiders have whispered allusions to "off-court stuff" to explain his inconsistencies. In hindsight, he appears to have taken some public joy in fatherhood, albeit cryptically. On Jan. 7, the day of Bosh's alleged first meeting with his daughter in that D.C. hotel room, the Raptors captain posted an effusive message on Twitter, the micro-blogging site to which he is a frequent contributor, which belied his professional struggles and his personal turmoil.

"I'm on top of the world right now," went Bosh's tweet. "I've seen the new light!"
